Ireman 2012

Sunrise at 05:15 so I thought... I thought that daylight would already be on for the start of the Ireman Ironman 2012 in Groomsport, Co. Down, Northern Ireland. This event is organised by the Triangle Triathlon Club.
An Ironman event is not for the faint hearted. Swimming 3.8Km, adding 180Km cycling and ending with a proper marathon of 42.15Km is not for everyone. 12 hours of sport (some would classify this with other words) is synonim of an early start... and that start was scheduled for 6am.
So... I arrived at 5.30am and the quietness of the night was still reigning. The low tide, no wind, the Irish Sea looking like an enormous swimming pool, the sun still asleep as it dawned on me (little pun here) that 05.15 was a UTC time and we are on good British Summer time, which means 06.15 for the first rays of light to come out. It all worked for the best I think. A spectacular sunrise, with views of the sea to match and the added bonus of having around 20 (super) athletes preparing for an entire day against their own limits.
